TRYPTIC

A series of three works on paper, created using a combination of watercolor and acrylic ink. Building on the themes explored in “Semi-Circles” and “Alien Child Rising,” this series delves into the sensations of growth and transformation. As a self-portrait, it depicts the artist's experience of the body and soul stretching beyond familiar confines into the unknown. The works capture the inherent discomfort and impatience of wanting to change, grow, and learn, while also expressing the hope for calm and equilibrium in a new state of being. The series reflects the struggle inherent in personal evolution and the aspirations toward a more balanced existence.

COMFORTED BY THE ANTHROPOCENE

This essay explores the impact of moving a rock from its original landscape, creating a unique interaction with cosmic significance. It examines how rocks, as "hyperobjects," challenge our perception of space and time, especially in the face of ecological crises. By contrasting traditional views with Donna Haraway's "Chthulucene" and object-oriented ontology, it suggests a re-evaluation of human and rock relationships in our finite existence.

ECHOES (PART ONE)

Flint collected from Balloërveld, NL, and transported to Glasgow, UK, with the intention of making fire (see 'FIRE; ATTEMPT 1' and 'FIRE; ATTEMPT 2'). These stones, remnants from the Weichselian Ice Age (475,000 to 410,000 years ago), prompted a reflection on the vast temporal span they represent compared to human life. The artist’s initial disregard for their ancient origins led to a profound understanding of the immense difference between the stones' existence and her mortality.

The essay offers insights into the fluidity of gender and how environments shape her understanding of femininity.

MATERIAL REFERENCE AND PRACTICE

Investigating how mundane time and objects can be endowed with ‘sacredness’ through the delineation of time, repetition of action, labor-intensive processes, and/or the use of ‘noble’ materials. This performative and material research draws inspiration from Jewish heritage, aiming to negate religious connotations by incorporating elements such as Treif (bacon in this instance). Additionally, the work engages with Union iconography to explore themes of craft, labor, skill, and the structuring of time, to include periods of labor and rest.
