Michael Hautemulle employs a variety of media to probe the concept of time as a finite and measurable entity (and the irony that exists within that attempt). Through sculpture, film, audio, drawing, painting, writing, embroidery, performance, and installation, she delves into the intricacies of mortality's influence on our perception of time and values. Each medium issuing a unique lens through which to examine the existential questions posed by the omnipresence of death. Hautemulle juxtaposes contrasting elements to create open-ended allegorical narratives that challenge the derivative notions of virtue and vice, inviting viewers to contemplate their own temporal existence within our impermanency.
Currently, Hautemulle’s focus lies on the intersection of heaven (captital or lower case ‘h’ as yet underterminded), utopia, and fantasy as both verb and genre, to query the complexities of humanity in the face of mortality.
