SEAGULL

Pen and ink
2023

This pen and ink drawing juxtaposes the seagull—once closely associated with the open sea—with its adaptation to urban life as it steals an ice cream cone and flies out to sea. In the background, wind turbines and oil rigs rise above the water, suggesting the interaction between nature and industry. The seagull, now thriving in human-altered environments, reflects the adaptability of wildlife in changing conditions. Following similar themes as Love Mussel, this piece invites reflection on how these birds, once emblematic of freedom, now navigate a world shaped by human consumption and industrialization. This drawing marks the beginning of a series that may further explore these themes, potentially including additional works such as Love Mussel, cast bronze mussels, and further seagull illustrations.
